The Great Depression is one of the most famous time periods in history. There were many people that were interviewed including Sherman Dolman. Born in Vervan Germany, September 4th 1863, he moved to Nebraska when he was six. He went to school like every other normal child, but stopped going when he was in the 4th grade. He remembers living in in a 16ft long 18 ft wide house with his parents. He also remembers being scared the first time he come across Indians; apperantly it was the way they dressed. He learned blacksmithing from his father, but also had a passion for painting. Doing both as a career, he also found time to go to church. Sherman is currently a white male, of 75 years of age. Another person interviewed was Jacob Stein. Like Sherman Dolman, Jacob Stein was an immigrant from Europe who moved to America, specifically New York. He was a Polish male who, also like Sherman Dolman, had little education. Because of his lack of education, from his interview you can tell his speech is broken and he is not very good with English. He had lost his job because a rival of his had told doctors that he was crazy. With the doctors checking him and his sanity, he could not hold down a job and was subsequently laid off. The main difference between these two men is that Sherman Dolman believed there had been a worse depression in America in the 1870's, while Jacob Stein was laid off from his job during the rough economic times and was now a bum. Jacob, calling himself a bum, would agree that the economy is bad, while Sherman would disagree.
